Golden Globes fashion caused a posting frenzy as tFS members rushed to critique the red carpet hits and misses. Also on the radar is an uncharacteristic candid style slip-up by Kate Bosworth, and Phoebe Philo’s pre-fall bags for Celine have members adding the classic box bag in blue to their wish lists.
Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Review
The forums were ablaze last night with commentary on the fashions seen at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards. While Natalie Portman may have taken home the Best Actress prize for her performance in the Black Swan, her pink Viktor & Rolf gown received mixed reviews on tFS.
NakedIfIWantTo simply stated that the look was “underwhelming” while marjanthelion took it a step further, commenting that “she has the ability to look so chic and cool and romantic but (most of) her recent looks have been boring or matronly.” LolaSvelt was of a different mind, declaring: “I think she looks stunning. Her best look in ages. Sometimes she looks sloppy and unfinished. Here, she looks complete.” One thing’s for sure, we all hope Natalie pulls out all the stops and wows us at the Oscars.
Red was one of the colors of the night and January Jones in scarlet Versace had posters picking their jaws up off the floor. Sobriquet87 quipped: “Anyone of the male species who’s sitting near her probably could not concentrate all night. She looks smoking hot! And in a non-slutty way, which is not easy to do in a dress like that.”
Emerald green ruled the red carpet as well and was the color of choice for some stunning brunettes who appeared on the best dressed lists of several tFS members: Mila Kunis in Vera Wang, Angelina Jolie in Versace and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier. Nude tones were also in heavy rotation as seen on Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab (her dress received mixed reviews but her Elvira hair was a definite flop). Another definite flop was the daisy adorned Valentino dress worn by Michelle Williams. A rare misstep, tFS member Jennika ruefully commented: “I’m normally a huge Michelle Williams fan but I can’t defend that dress.”
Kate Bosworth’s Fashion Misstep
Kate Bosworth tends to be a style favorite in the tFS forums, but a recent outfit has posters scratching their heads and wondering what she was thinking. Bosworth’s combination of a denim dress, dark brown shearling Burberry jacket, bare legs and camel brown ankle boots received an overwhelmingly and nearly unanimous negative response. Several members liked each piece individually but thought the combination was disastrous. “I hate this last outfit,” said Mila D, “it’s completely the opposite of what Kate’s style means to me. For me, Kate’s style is laid back and this is so not laid back… she’s mixing way too many trends in her outfit.”
Diane von Furstenberg’s Lackluster S/S 2011 Ad Campaign
The response to the first image out of the Diane von Furstenberg S/S 2011 ad campaign photographed by Glen Luchford and featuring models Kendra Spears and Ming Xi has been a bit lackluster. The general consensus seems to be that Ming’s pose, leaning forward with her back arched and her hands braced on her thighs, cheapens the look of the ad. The pose combined with the brightly colored clothing had psychodream7 calling it “Baby Phat cheap.” Purplethistle agrees that “Ming’s pose kills this campaign,” but concedes that “Kendra on the other hand was actually good.” We’ll see if this campaign can redeem itself as more images are released.
Phoebe Philo’s Covetable Pre-Fall Bags for Celine
Images of Phoebe Philo’s pre-fall bags for Celine have tFSers coveting the classic box bag in blue. Label Basher, for one, can’t stop thinking about it. Another doctor style bag in camel colored leather with top handles and a cross body strap seemed a bit too referential. Isa.b.elle. noted that “the camel one screams ‘Sofia Coppola-Louis Vuitton.’”
