Spotted around town looking impossibly cool at all times was Joanna Hillman, Senior Fashion Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar. Always wearing her signature red lipstick and black Rayban Wayfarers, Hillman’s style has received nearly unanimous approval in the Fashion Spot forums. Kingchic, one of her many admirers wrote, “I adore her style. That red lip is stunning on her.”
“I wonder how does she get her lipstick on so perfectly,” asked educo, “besides lip liner of course. It looks like it never comes off!” Mistinguett noted that “the shade suits her perfectly without being too overwhelming.”
Hillman’s look on day 7 of fashion week received rave reviews. “That leopard coat paired with navy pants (and pumps!) is fantastic,” posted FashionMorebid. MissyJG pointed out that “her leopard coat is from Zara,” and both she and jacquelyn paige admitted that they almost bought the coat because of Hillman. “It’s so gorgeous, she really knows how to wear it!” said jacquelyn paige.

The Ascent of Arizona Muse Continues
Arizona Muse finished New York Fashion Week with an impressive twenty-two appearances on the runway. According to alice’s final count Muse opened at six of those shows (Anna Sui, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, J. Mendel, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Preen) and closed four of them (Anna Sui, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Rag & Bone, Vera Wang).
Muse is sure to continue gracing the runways in London, Milan and Paris as well as the pages of fashion’s top magazines. She’s certainly the face of 2011 thus far.
Kristina Salinovic: Another Model on the Rise
Model Kristina Salinovic seems to slowly be emerging as a model whose career is on the rise. With a face somewhat reminiscent of a young Lara Flynn Boyle, Salinovic has already been making plenty of appearances at shows in New York and London, and has even closed a few of them (including Narciso Rodriguez and PPQ). Zoom noted: “Kristina is making select appearances in some very cool shows so far, and she has been closing them as well. I am super curious to see what happens in Paris.” Those appearances in themselves were a good sign of things to come, but Salinovic also opened Tom Ford’s presentation this season; a highly coveted role to be sure. The news of the honor left zoom speechless, but after composing himself he was able to express that “Kristina is racking up the approval of some of the most powerful tastemakers in the game. Lagerfeld?! Opening for Tom Ford?! She is a stealth [Fall/Winter] contender for sure… [I] feel like she is on the verge of something really major.” It seems like a safe bet that we’ll be seeing more of Kristina Salinovic in the near future.
Shala Monroque, Editor-at-Large for Pop Magazine, debuted a new hairstyle at New York Fashion week that got the forums talking. Reviews were decidedly mixed. Mikeijames was “simply obsessed with [her] glam look” when she appeared in the front row at Jason Wu’s fashion show. “The hair actually helps her channel the ‘roaring twenties’ vibe she has with this entire look,” he wrote. “It’s almost ripped from the cover of one of those vintage 1920s issues of Vogue magazine.” Lola rose was unconvinced. “While I agree with you about all that 20s vibe, I still think this hair doesn’t really suit her,” she said.
Kingchic was also critical of the new ‘do: “I always appreciate Shala and her efforts, but it just looks like a bad hair piece.” Mighty_isis reluctantly expressed a similar dislike, saying, “I usually love her look but the hair is very aging.” Not Plain Jane went against the dissidents, commenting: “Weird, but I don’t mind the hair; the extra short bangs really frame her beautiful eyes and wide cheekbones.”
This new hairstyle got Shala Monroque to stand out among the throng of fashionable femmes at NYFW, so that must be some measure of success, right?
