GIVE ME SOME SHOULDER ACTION!

Whether built-up, dropped, structured, hugged, or bared . . . it was upon the shoulder that the allure of many of this season’s freshest looks rested. From the house of Balmain to the newly appointed creative director, Esteban Cortazar, at Emmanuel Ungaro; designers were manipulating the shoulder region to seduce, tantalize, and delight editors, buyers, and consumers alike.

The subdued version of the 80s power shoulder sauntered down the runway at Balmain, appropriately adorned with crystal encrusted ephilets. The strong shoulder, characteristic of the menswear-tailoring trend currently appearing on catwalks from New York to Paris, was accentuated by the Rock Chic twist that Balmain lent it.

While at the opposite end of the shoulder slope, Ungaro presented the fluid asymmetric one-shoulder look that carried over from the spring/summer shows.  Sexually suggestive and ultra feminine, its  “come hither” vibe was beautifully executed by the young Esteban Cortazar in his first outing on the Parisian catwalks.

Ultimately if you want to give someone the cold shoulder, crystal encrusted of course, or just bare all . . . but one of your shoulders, you will have no shortage of stylish options to chose from this fall.
