Fashion Editor Style Inspiration: Shala Monroque (Forum Buzz)

Whether they’re photographed by bloggers on the street between runway shows during Fashion Week, or attending a special event or party, Fashion Editors capture the attention and admiration of the Fashion Spot’s forum members. Shala Monroque, former Editor-at-Large of Pop Magazine, has been generating a lot of buzz as of late in the forums. She first drew our notice back in 2009, but now, her popularity seems to be growing by the day.

Shala has a preference for Miuccia Prada’s creations, whether from Prada’s main line or Miu Miu, and she wears them well. At a party after the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Spring 2011 Costume Institute Benefit Gala in honor of Alexander McQueen, Shala wowed the crowd in a wonderfully accessorized Prada ensemble. “She continues to dazzle me!” mikeijames admired.

“She carries herself with a LOT of confidence, and that comes across in her style,” posted Not Plain Jane. That’s a quality worth emulating, whether you like Shala’s style or not.

Photos from the event prompted lola rose to write, “Shala is a superwoman – confident, beautiful and chic!” All of this for just one look. I wasn’t kidding when I cited her power to inspire.

At another recent appearance at Chanel’s Sixth Annual Tribeca Film Festival Dinner, Shala was dressed to impress in an all-white ensemble that she topped with a great camel-colored trench. Not Plain Jane said the “coat [was] gorgeous and she [was] a vision in white.”

Lebigt was a fan of Shala’s hair style: “I love the piecey bangs as it roughs up/minimally dishevels such a simple/dainty frock. It’s just really chic, and it’s Shala, so it works,” he wrote.

Shala also incited plenty of style envy during Paris Fashion Week, when forum members eagerly awaited seeing photos of her outfits for the shows. The photo of her above, shot by Garance Doré after the Miu Miu runway show, led mackos to comment, “That shot in Palais d’Iéna is amazing. She’s so perfect as an ambassadress of this Prada collection that I cannot even express it.”

Melly5525 wrote, “I’m obsessed with her, this Prada dress comes to life on her and the necklace is so fun.” The Prada dress and Shala’s fruity and fun accessories helped Wolkfolk pinpoint what he loves most about her. “I think what I love the most about Shala, is her ability to make the funkiest pieces so ladylike without losing their appeal” he wrote.

Also in Paris, Shala wore Worth’s black and gold embroidered silk dress. Playing the part of a gilded ballerina, she paired the dress with Repetto flats and accessorized with Worth and Eddie Borgo necklaces. “OBSESSED,” wrote mikeijames of the look.

Caught on camera between fashion shows, Shala kept warm by bundling up in one of her Prada fox fur stoles. Her high-heeled loafers are also easily identifiable as Prada. Eugenius complimented the look: “Her sense of color is fantastic. It’s never too much, it’s never too little: it all just flows harmoniously from [her] hat at the top, all the way down to footwear at the bottom. And I usually hate the more standout, obvious Prada pieces… but with Shala, it always looks wonderful.”

“So much fabulousness is killing me!” exclaimed almudena when she posted an image of Shala in an enviable hooded leather coat with sheepskin lining. “That coat is just amazing! I’m jealous of her clothes,” missnyc admitted. Jealous or not, Shala’s a good person to take fashion cues from.

Apart from her noteworthy sense of personal style, forum members have also turned their eyes toward Shala’s revamped blog. Called Shala’s Rabbit Hole, the blog features her musings about fashion, inspirations and more. Songbirdsel wrote, “I didn’t realize she had [a blog]. Honestly it’s so beautiful and simple and such an inspiration, I can’t remember the last time I got excited over such a simple thing!”

We get easily excited about people and things we like over at the Fashion Spot. For more on Shala Monroque, check out her thread in the forums, or take a look at Shala’s Rabbit Hole.
