ADAM Spring 2012 Runway Review

Watching a show by ADAM is always a mixed bag. Designer Adam Lippes has a very loyal following but his shows leave a lot to be desired in terms of cohesion. Lippes was inspired by the High Line, what he calls a “runway in the sky,” but it seems the eccentricities of New Yorkers’ style made it into the collection along with the bold florals and creamy pastels. He touched on new trends such as the drop waist and cape style jackets, but there were a number of serious missteps. While there were definitely pieces in the collection that are sure to be big sellers, the styling and mish-mash of references held the show back from being a cohesive success. Looks like the finale dress, which rumor has it casting director and street style star Natalie Joos took right off the runway to wear out last night, and the easy breezy summer dresses are sure to be big hits, but the most jarring were the grey dress and military jackets that came out of nowhere in a sea of feminine frocks.
