Amber Heard: Beauty Look of the Week – Sophisticated but Youthful

Who: Amber Heard

Where: The Los Angeles premiere of The Rum Diary

Why we like it: It’s easy to go wrong with a slick updo as some believe the drama of the hair must be matched by the makeup look. Heard’s bronzed eye with a flushed coral cheek paired with the sophistication of her hair makes this look modern and youthful.

How to get it at home: With this look you’ll want a higher coverage foundation to get a flawless face so apply a liquid foundation such as Illamasqua’s Rich Liquid Foundation $34 with a stippling brush for even, blended coverage. Next, use NARS’ Highlighting/Bronzing Blush Duo $40 to get warm glowing cheeks. If you have a round or puffy face, use a touch of the bronzer as a contour but be very careful as it has some shimmer. To get her bronzed eye, apply a cream shadow such as Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Beach Bronze $22 around the outer corners of the upper and lower lash line, blending inwards. Use a thick eyeliner such as Givenchy’s Magic Kajal Eye Pencil $22 along the upper lash line, smudging it as you go. This product has a creamy texture with vitamin E so it blends wonderfully. If your brows are sparse, fill them in with a pencil such as Anastasia’s Perfect Brow $22 and finish off your eyes by using a lengthening mascara or some thin false eyelashes for added drama. Complete your makeup with a moisturizing beige/coral lipstick such as Smashbox’s Photo Finish Lipstick in Splendid $22.

To get Heard’s chic and sophisticated up-do, separate your hair into two sections along the crown of your head and secure the bottom section into a tight ponytail (keep the top half out of the way). Next use a sock or donut to create a perfectly round bun by securing it around your ponytail (don’t forget to cut the top of the sock off if you’re using that) and then wrapping excess hair around to make sure none of the sock is showing and secure with pins. Next tease the top half of your hair and separate into three sections. Wrap them individually around the base of your bun securing as your go and finish off with a good holding hairspray.
