Vivienne Tam Fall 2012 Runway Review

The title on the designer’s line sheet read “Shangri-la Remix”. Summing up the collection in minimal words like: cultures, traditions, ethnic elements, textural, diagonal, and ethereal, helped in letting us know what we were in store for. Color schemes of “toasted apricot”, dusty teal, burnt sienna, and other muted hues walked up and down the runway. The inspirations behind the collection were “optimism, freedom, ageless/new, and Shangri-La”. Favorites were the big, fluffy fur collars and necks of the garments, though they were not on every piece, they definitely were a constant in the show. Embroidered appliques were also consistently used in the majority of the fashions in addition to a few cut-out design elements. The vests, blazers, and amazing coats were my personal favorites, especially with the use of so many patterns. There were a vast mixture of prints that you would never think to put together, but, somehow, they just worked!
