Likely done as an ode to the late Gianni Versace, known for his use of religious motifs, the collection included a recurring Byzantine cross print. Also in the mix were chainmail gowns and bustier dresses with breast plates, both Gianni signatures as well. The color palette was kept, for the most part, dark with a few hints of orange and yellow scattered in between and a parade of closing metal mesh gowns done in light neutrals.
Though the collection could have done without the yellow Versace letter print looks, it speaks to Donatella Versace’s own talent that she can take some of Gianni’s most iconic inspiration points and put her own spin on it – and who knew, this season at least, it would be a gothic one?
