A funny thing happens to adults when they’re in the presence of Hello Kitty, they become downright giddy with excitement. I saw it firsthand on a recent afternoon when I found myself at The Crosby Street Hotel for a Hello Kitty-themed tea party. Fruit tarts, cupcakes, macaroons, tea sandwiches, and an assorted selection of teas were served on a Hello Kitty confetti-clad table to about a dozen online beauty editors, all of whom were smiling ear to ear. I may be with Charlize Theron in not completely understanding the infinite appeal of Hello Kitty, but it was pretty awesome to see otherwise jaded women get so excited about a Sanrio character. I also have to admit, the collection’s appeal — and the swanky tea setup — were pretty hard to resist.
The event, which was held in honor of Sephora’s new Hello Kitty range, showcased the Hello Kitty Hello Pretty collection which includes a bronzer ($28), compact mirror ($29), retractable kabuki brush ($28), makeup bag ($29), two-tiered eye palette ($36), 50 ml Hello Kitty Big Pink Bow Fragrance ($58), Rollergirl ($19), and solid perfume ring ($29).
Following the Hello Kitty preview, I headed a few blocks south to Norisol Ferrari’s showroom. Upon finding out where I just was, her eyes lit up — needless to say, my gift bag (see the above headband) found a new home!
