The oddities abound, and you’ll be sure to spot something from virtually every subculture; even the highly skilled skateboarders, in all their finesse, are refreshingly trendy. It’s truly a place where secondhand is second nature, and nearly every outfit worn has at least one garment that’s been tailored, tweaked, or otherwise reworked in a style that is far ahead of the crowd.
The city has experienced some unpredictable atmospheric conditions this summer, and as a result, the trend forecast has been difficult to track. But for those yearning to find offbeat inspiration, you can always depend on Union Square to provide it in any climate.
NYC Street Style: Union Square
Perfectly Faded Denim
While this was one of the more sophisticated looks we spotted near the Square, this girl's youthful demeanor and charming smile bring life to a denim shirt, skinnies, and a basic pair of oxfords.

Cheery Polka Dots
A cheery polka dot pattern adds playfulness and spunk to a lengthier dress cut. A cozy sweater, slouchy bag, and an adorable pair of bowler shoes complete the look.

Romper as Neutral Base
Immediately drawn to her outfit's audacity, it's no surprise this look became one of our favorite street snaps of the week. Green hair, striking eyeshadow, and a gorgeous red lip color are just beginning the boldness; a gingham romper worn over lace tights and white gogo-style lace up boots complete an outfit that is sure to turn heads.

Making a Statement
Statement necklaces are becoming increasingly popular, as well as nude and beige hues in dresses, sweaters, blouses and skirts. While the combination of a chunky necklace, sweater dress, and motorcycle boots may sound quirky, we think this ensemble appears delightfully refined.

Rainbow Dreadlocks
The intensity of the Occupy Wall Street Movement may have dwindled down, (it has since been moved to Union Square), but there is no shortage of vivacity in this girl's beautifully untamed mane of rainbow dreadlocks.

Skate Culture
The skating and music scene at the Square is something you cannot miss. Toting their boards and the occasional boombox, swathes of kids meet every evening to dance, freestyle, skate, and converse with fellow friends. It's frankly spectacular to see some elements of old-school hip-hop culture reemerge, brought back of course in a very invigorating light by the new generation and their musical contemporaries.

Old-School Band Tee
A worn-in white tee and slouchy band top represent the very essence of New York street style, and we love how laid back yet confident these friends are while taking a stroll in the square.
