See a Preview of the Amazing Daphne Guinness Couture Collection, Up at Auction for Christies

The Isabella Blow Foundation

The foundation was set up by Daphne in the memory of the famous fashion editor and style icon, Isabella Blow. It aims to facilitate research in the fields of depression and mental health, as well as to support up-and-coming art and fashion students. Both Blow and the late fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen were close friends of Daphne’s who reportedly suffered from Bipolar disorder and as a consequence, took their own lives. So, it really is a cause very close to Daphne’s heart.

What’s being auctioned?

Daphne is auctioning off her own personal wardrobe. Even though it’s hard to part with some of her favourite and most memorable pieces, she’s committed to the cause and eager to raise money to support the charity. One of the auction’s standout items is a sculptural metallic silver mini dress custom-made by Alexander McQueen accompanied by a Mat Collishaw photograph of Daphne wearing the dress. The lot also includes the first-ever piece of couture which Daphne bought from Christian Lacroix, a lemon satin and hide bubble dress, and a large Mario Testino photograph of the style icon posing for Vogue UK.

Public Exhibition

If you’re interested in buying any of the pieces or simply fancy having a nosey, the complete auction catalogue is available online at Christie’s. If you do so happen to be in London, there’s a public exhibition of the collection running from Saturday 23rd June until Monday 25th June, and entry is free of charge. Or simply check out our own photos of the collection below!
