Kate will celebrate with a high-profile shindig in SoHo tomorrow night, hosted by the equally chic Derek Blasberg. Amid the pre-launch craziness, I caught up with the power stylist and Target It girl to chat menswear, red carpet moments and Brooklyn theaters.
Julie Bensman: What can we expect from the new Kate Young for Target line?
Kate Young: It’s exactly what I dreamed it would be. The line reflects my aesthetic for edgy, sophisticated style and is designed to offer items that are versatile, modern and ideal for special dressing at an affordable price.
JB: Besides your own, which other capsule collections/lower-priced lines do you love?
KY: I may be a little biased but my favorite collaboration has to be Jason Wu for Target. Jason is a dear friend of mine and I even had the honor of styling his campaign with Target in 2011.
JB: What will be your “uniform” this upcoming Spring/Summer 2013?
KY: I can’t get enough of men’s-inspired suiting, whether it’s a blazer, shorts or a tailored trouser. I’m also loving anything lace or sheer for spring.
JB: Where do you find design inspiration?
KY: I create inspiration boards for all of my clients and did the same for my collection with Target. I have always been inspired by the magic of old Hollywood glamour and I wanted to design a collection that encourages women to create their own magical red carpet moments.
JB: What’s the last thing you googled?
KY: I literally just googled “Nighthawk Cinema” because I needed the address — I have to be there in half an hour!
