Russian top model Sasha Pivovarova graces yet another Vogue September issue after having already snagged one of the covers for the 8th anniversary issue of Vogue China this month. Photographer duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot Sasha for the September issue of Vogue Russia, also an anniversary issue, in their signature style, signalized by the oversaturated colors, the accentuation of dramatic makeup and heavy retouching. With Sasha being a long-time favorite of tFS forum members, the cover was bound to get positive reactions in the forums and it’s not surprising this striking image pleased a majority of the commenting fashionistas.
“It’s always exciting to see Sasha be part of such an intense image,” posted Faith Akiyama.
And SkinnyBoy added, “This is taking me back to her Prada Fall 2006 ads. Intense! Gotta love Sasha.”
“Oh wow finally something different and fiery from them! It looks dope and so high fashion!” exclaimed Bertrando3.
Fashiognosis declared this a favorite Vogue September cover and MON called it one of the best Vogue Russia covers under Victoria Davydova’s direction. He wrote, “Amazing! That stare and that pose. Amazing!! Finally something worth remembering from Vogue Russia after the new EIC’s tenure. I just hope they pick up from here, their 15th year anniversary.”
This opinion was shared by miguelalmeida who gushed, “This is for sure the best cover since the new EIC stepped in! Sasha looks soooo striking and FIERCE!!!!!! I LOVE IT! This got to be the only September issue that I’m excited to see the content, best September issue 2013 cover! Mert & Marcus did a superb job here! Congrats!”
I share the excitement over this cover and can point out numerous things I love about it – the styling, that glossy black hair on Sasha, the striking colors, the sexy pose and that intense and commanding stare. And yes, it’s ‘fierce!’ Vogue Russia delivered a fantastic and intriguing cover, and basically, what’s not to like here?
