Why we like it: Holiday party season is sneaking up on us and now’s the time to start practicing your statement-making looks. We love this warm red eye that has just enough shimmer to keep it from looking too bruise-like. It’s the perfect alternative to the standard smoky eye.
How to get it at home: Start with a foundation that gives a good amount of coverage. You don’t want to detract from the eye here so having a clean base is very important. We love Kat Von D’s Lock It Tattoo Foundation ($34) because it gives great coverage but has a satiny finish.
If you’re lucky enough to have brows like Rooney, a clear gel might be enough to groom your brows, otherwise try a product, such as Benefit’s Gimme Brow ($22), which is a fiber gel that adds color as well as helps to shape. This smoky eye might look intimidating but it’s the color that makes the impact, so try a scaled back version using Laura Mercier’s Baked Eye Color in Aubergine ($23), which can been applied dry and blended out into the crease or wet for a more dramatic color payoff. Finish off your eyes with a long-wearing mascara that won’t detract from the color, such as Bobbi Brown’s No Smudge Mascara ($25).
Lastly, get Rooney’s petal pink lip with NARS’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bettina ($25).
