Daria Werbowy is once again the star of the Celine campaign. While this should not surprise anyone (it being her 4th consecutive season of being the face of the brand), it’s more unexpected to see Australian model Julia Nobis also starring in the campaign. Having been a runway fixture for just about every relevant designer for many seasons, Julia is now finally getting the recognition that she deserves in print work this season. She just landed the January 2014 cover of Vogue Italia and appears in the Christian Dior Spring 2014 campaign. Forum members applauded the expansion of the model cast and the fresh concept for the Celine campaign.
“I love the change of direction so far. I still think Juergen [Teller] shot it, but it still looks different,” wrote TREVOFASHIONISTO.
GERGIN disagreed with this last sentence. “Finally something new…I personally don’t think Juergen shot this though, and I will be very surprised if that’s the case.”
Although we do not know yet who lensed this campaign, it’s safe to say that the change of direction is most welcome. Daria still looks a lot like Celine creative director Phoebe Philo in her solo shot, as members point out every season, but the image with Julia Nobis sure adds the needed oomph to this campaign.
“Julia is really on a roll, and I love her shot,” commented TheoG.
Vandekamp interpreted the theme as “polar opposite energies.” She added, “I like it so far.”
Japanese model Chiharu Okunugi is also rumored to be in the campaign. We are looking forward to seeing more.
