Go Inside the Rocker-Inspired Beauty Look for Jay Godfrey’s First-Ever New York Fashion Week Presentation

According to the label, the beauty look was inspired by a young woman who “can’t be bothered to spend a lot of time on her hair — she was out late the night before and her hair has effortless morning-after waves and volume. The look is shaggy and messy with a definite rock star quality.”

The look — made up of loose, tousled waves and a thick smear of eyeliner — was tested on Norweigan runway model Hildie Gifstad (Fusion Models). Gifstad was wearing a cozy, oversized purple sweater which, she told Godfrey, she’d knitted herself. “You did it yourself? Well, I grew my own hair,” he quipped.

Though this is the Canadian-born designer’s first time showing at Lincoln Center, Godfrey’s line is already carried by major department stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue; his dresses have also appeared on the red carpet, worn by celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Carrie Underwood and Megan Fox. The designer comes to fashion by way of Wall Street: Godfrey worked at Citigroup after studying finance at Montreal’s McGill University. He later attended Parsons and interned for Oscar de la Renta before launching his own line.
