If it’s summer romance you’re looking for, stop right there. Designer Nicky Zimmermann sent a troupe of models down the catwalk in a seemingly endless supply of printed ruffles, metallic pleats and sheer lace. But naturally, it was a handful of bold swimwear options that stole the show. We’ve already pre-ordered the two-piece halter with high-waisted bottoms. If only summer loving could be so easy.
theFashionSpot: What was on your mind for spring?
Nicky Zimmermann: It all started with a tarot card we saw by David Palladini in 1969. From there, we played around with metallic colors and gemstones. We wanted the collection to be airy and fresh.
tFS: Have you ever gotten your cards read?
NZ: I haven’t! I love birth signs, though. I’m a Virgo.
tFS: What’s your most Virgo-like trait?
NZ: I won’t rest until something is exactly how I want it.

tFS: What’s your number one backstage rule?
NZ: I really like people far away from the clothes. I don’t like them to be handled too much.
tFS: If you weren’t a fashion designer, what would you be?
NZ: I’ve wanted to be a designer for as long as I remember, but I really like flowers, so maybe a florist.
tFS: Tell us about your first fashion show.
NZ: It was around 1996 for the very first Fashion Week in Australia. We were one of maybe nine designers. We had no idea what we were doing.
