MAC Cosmetics posted a beautiful image of Ugandan model Aamito Lagum’s lips and was met with a slew of racist comments. Instagram users described her facial features using racial slurs and some even compared her to an animal. Apparently, the same full lips that Kylie Jenner pays for — and is praised for — aren’t attractive on women of color.
To her credit, Lagum was graceful and dignified in the face of racist trolls. The America’s Next Top Model champ, who also walked in Yeezy Season 3, responded by encouraging self-love:
She even sparked the #prettylipsperiod movement, encouraging other women to embrace their full lips. Her perfect pout, covered in MAC’s Matte Royal lipstick shade, looks like a sideways heart. Perhaps if her racist trolls had one, the Internet would be a better place.
