Be Very Afraid: Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner Morph Into Humanoid Creatures for W Magazine’s Weird November Cover (Forum Buzz)

For obvious reasons, It girls Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are having a banner year when it comes to magazine covers. So it should come as no surprise to see the duo’s newest covers of W Magazine. Not just any old edition of the title, W‘s issue for November marks its 10th anniversary annual art offering, which captures Gigi and Kendall like never before. In collaboration with artists Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, the girls morph into humanoid creatures of another dimension. Still with us? OK.

As expected, members of our forums had strong opinions about the concept. “Good God,” laughed Benn98 in a state of utter shock, “This is bad on so many levels!! I admire their gusto for going with this, but I’m not a fan, I’m afraid. With a gun next to my head, I’d take Kendall’s cover purely because of the calming motifs and colors.”

“What the hell is this exactly?” Oxymore asked in horror.

“What the…” quizzed GivenchyAddict, unsure of what to think of the bizarre shoot.

Also unimpressed was MON, ranting, “The images itself…my goodness. This is not art. This is a joke. If this were the funny issue, I would’ve understood it. I seriously hate the notion magazines have that by having an ‘Art Issue’ they could easily get away with putting something so weird on the cover. That’s. not. art. And where’s the fashion? Where’s the glamour? And someone please explain to me the nose. From where I’m standing, it’s rather insulting.”

“Two bland models with Snapchat filters on the cover. NEXT! W is losing it slowly with putting both of these non-selling socialites on the covers,” complained a disenchanted RanThe.

VogueDisciple93 was left shaking her head in disbelief too, writing, “I don’t know much about the artists behind the cover and edit, Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, but this is an absolute mess that does not translate well on the a magazine cover. I will not begrudge the edit because of the issue’s theme, even if there isn’t much fashion, but this simply does not work for a cover.”

W Magazine has a whole lot of compensating for this eyesore ahead. See more and join the conversation here.
