Today is a great day for shopping (if you’re based in New York City). Between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time, athleisure lovers can swing by 150 Greene Street and wait in a lengthy (but aesthetically pleasing) line outside the first Alexander Wang sample sale in two years. Two miles away, at 144 Tenth Avenue, 95-year-old style icon Iris Apfel will be selling pieces from her prized jewelry collection at retail project STORY.

“I’ve been collecting since I was eleven—do the math,” 95-year-old Iris Apfel has said of her vast jewelry collection. The Aigner frontwoman got her superior taste in trinkets from her mama: “My mother was pretty glamorous, she was a working gal, but she was very glamorous. First she was in real estate, and then she had fashion boutiques. Way back then she carried costume jewelry—beautiful costume jewelry.”

Iris is parting with several animal-shaped brooches, an assortment of bright, bejeweled rings and various statement necklaces. The sure-to-sell-out pieces range from affordable ($45) to investment ($850).
The style icon herself will make an appearance between 5 and 7 p.m., so if you’re more into ogling than purchasing, plan your day accordingly. The trunk show is also a means of promoting STORY’s current installation, a sort of IRL gift guide. The shop’s home, a 2,000-square-foot Chelsea gallery, has been temporarily transformed into a makeshift house. Each room showcases gifts for those who might occupy it — her, him, the kids, the whole family.

Those outside the Big Apple, don’t fall into a FOMO hole! Iris designs her own quirky jewelry, which anyone can scoop up via the Home Shopping Network. (Or there’s always her line for Macy’s.)
