The Hadid sisters are set for superstardom once again this year, as they continue to dominate the fashion circuit. Not only is Gigi Hadid the face of Max Mara and Stuart Weitzman this season, she joins sister Bella Hadid in Fendi’s new campaign and Moschino’s just-released Spring 2017 campaign. Shot by master photographer Steven Meisel, the models navigate their way through flashing cameras and hounding paparazzi (per their everyday life) wearing Jeremy Scott’s kitschy collection. The fun and energetic campaign reminds us not to take fashion too seriously.
Members of our forums weren’t in the mood for more Gigi and Bella, however. “Holy cow they’re everywhere this campaign season. Bella’s shot looks the worst,” pointed out Cute straight away.
Forum member Pricciao wasn’t much of a fan either, declaring, “We should strike against such inanity!”
Also quick to discredit the casting this season was Benn98. “God, should we brace ourselves for the season of the Hadids? Meisel’s really gunning for them! I like the concept, and to some extent Gigi’s first shot. But overall it’s nothing new and they lack the fierceness to pull this off, instead looking like statues. Despite the blowing hair and sashaying it’s still too static. Now imagine Naomi [Campbell], Kate [Moss] or one of the Brazilians in this,” he wrote.
“Ugh, where is Gisele [Bündchen] when you need her?” cried out GivenchyHomme.
Anlabe32 expressed the same disapproving sentiments: “The Steven Meisel campaigns and casts were the one thing that didn’t make this brand completely cheap and repulsive, but this campaign and cast makes it exactly that – cheap.”
“Exactly, cheap models for a cheap brand!” snarled sixtdaily in reply.
“I want to like it but I can’t. I wish it were other models,” ranted Scotty.
Melancholybaby questioned, “Is there some weird Photoshop effect at work here? They both look unrecognizable, especially Gigi!”
