Fashion month: the four-week period twice a year when top designers debut their latest collections and industry insiders gather — in next-level outfits — to watch. And our style inspo cup runneth over.
In between scouring the Spring 2018 shows for next season’s trends, we took time to dissect showgoers’ (aka fashion #influencers) carefully constructed street style outfits to see which pieces (and styling tricks) have bubbled to the top of the current crop of offerings.
We’ll let you in on a little secret: individuality and diversity may be the keywords du jour, but a lot of these street style stars dress a heck of a lot alike. (Were they gifted the same pieces? Are some handbags just objectively better than others?) Not that that’s a bad thing for us. Quite the opposite. Knowing which pieces are generating the most buzz makes putting together our own Phil Oh/Insta-ready looks that much easier.
And with that said, click through the slideshow above to see 20 key pieces every fashion front-runner will be wearing this fall. Work ’em into your #OOTDs, watch your likes grow.

Items to Buy to Look like an Influencer
-
1. A Great Power Blazer
Dressing down is on the downturn. Pair your oversized/strong-shouldered/plaid/pinstripe blazer with shiny fitted pants or light-wash denim.
-
2. A Vintage(-ish) Bag
Early 2000s handbags (the Fendi Baguette, the Louis Vuitton Speedy, the Dior Saddle bag) are due for a major comeback. Go ahead and add The RealReal to your bookmarks.
-
3. Adam Selman x Le Specs Sunglasses
Adam Selman and Le Specs hit the jackpot when they decided to combine futuristic lenses with Old Hollywood shapes. Every influencer worth their quadruple-digit following owns — at the very least — a pair of The Last Lolitas. On a similar note, Poppy Lissiman and Niki Takesh's eyewear designs have been gaining traction.
-
4. A Single Statement Earring
Among the fashion crowd, rocking a single earring is no longer "experimental" — it's par for the course. They also make for some eye-catching selfies.
-
5. A Pair of Investment Sneakers
Fashion's love affair with the Stan Smith is just about over. These days, it’s all about chunky soles and standout details. Nike Air Max 97s and Acne Studios' Seinfeld-inspired Manhattans, which retail for a cool $470, are among those filling the void.
-
6. A Beret
Bonus points if there's a freshly buzzed head underneath.
-
7. A Fanny Pack
Remember when fanny packs were gauche? Neither do we. Belt bags are unquestionably the hero pieces of the Spring 2018 season. If you want to truly look the part of Insta influencer, splurge on Gucci's Marmont Matelassé style, fancied heavily by London showgoers.
-
8. A Net Bag
The net bag — beloved by Russian babushkas, French fisherman and Japanese clammers alike — is now the property of the street style set. Happily, The Line’s offering a very affordable $18 filet. (If you're down for a splurge/sturdier version, Staud’s Moreau is $375.)
-
9. Something Polka Dot
Polka dots are to fall what gingham was to spring. We've spoken about this at length. Pro tip: Bold graphic patterns make for killer plandids (aka planned candids).
-
10. Blue-Green Hair
Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid all wore "petrol" bangs on the Fendi Spring 2018 runway. Rihanna wore a turquoise wig to her native Barbados' annual Crop Over festival. How will you frame your blue-green hair reveal pic? (To those wondering, in this case the "item" is a box of dye.)
-
11. Bold Outerwear/Something Safety Orange
For Spring 2018, Raf Simons, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and Rihanna gave blindingly bright safety orange the go-ahead. Why hide your daring under a coat? (Update your outerwear accordingly.)
-
12. Nouveau Cowboy Boots
Preferably of the Calvin Klein 205W39NYC persuasion. If $1,295 boots don't meet your budgetary restrictions, may we suggest combing eBay for a vintage pair with Western-inspired topstitching, square toes and stacked Cuban heels.
-
13. Kitten Heels/Red Boots
Kitten heels are among the trendiest of footwear choices, as are red boots. Combine the two concepts and you can't lose.
-
14. Something Miaou
Alexia Elkaim's curve-embracing denim line — a favorite of Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid and the designer's own Insta-famous cohort — continues to expand its offerings. Are you partial to Miaou's signature wallet chain-belted jeans or more of a zip-up corset kinda gal?
-
15. Something From That Exorbitant Supreme x Louis Vuitton Collab
The amount of dollars you spend won't compare to the number of likes you'll receive. The former will be much, much higher. (More info here.)
-
16. A Calf-Grazing Belt
Off-White's yellow industrial belt (which measures over 6 feet long) is one of designer Virgil Abloh's biggest hits to date. Fall 2017's blue jacquard version will doubtless be allll over Instagram seeing as it's less than half the cost of the original. Knot XXL belts over everything from dresses to blazers, look incredibly cool — especially on windy days.
-
17. A Slouchy Top/Vertical Stripe Pants
Off-the-shoulder tops have faded from the runways, replaced by artfully askew styles that still manage to show off our ever-alluring collarbones. (Look to Zimmermann for an example.) For some added flair, pair your of-the-moment top with bold vertical stripe pants (and that ubiquitous Off-White belt).
-
18. Gucci's Latest It Tee
This one's a no-brainer. Anything Gucci is instant Insta-bait.
-
19. Something Ruched
Parachute-style ruching adds a sporty touch to even the most feminine ensembles. It's a cool detail all can appreciate.
-
20. A Teeny (Geometric) Top-Handle Bag
Forget about labels. Given Demna Gvasalia's track record with bag pricing, your followers will respect you more if your chic little triangle bag isn't Balenciaga.
