It’s tough times for the print industry, as we all very well know, which may explain why more and more covers are starting to look like advertisements for everything from designers to cars. Maybe it’s not ad dollars behind the all-Louis Vuitton Vogue Japan cover, for example, but it would certainly make sense.
Kaia Gerber proved, once again, that she’s a step above the other celebrity models, while actual celebrities (ahem, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry) delivered seriously disappointing covers. There were, however, some beautiful shots of Lupita Nyong’o, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie.
Overuse of Photoshop was another disappointment this month, especially in light of the natural trend we saw these past few months. For more from this month’s glossies, read on for our roundup of the best and worst March 2018 magazine covers.

All the March 2018 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated
Allure
A stunning tight shot of Lupita Nyong'o and one that is especially perfect for a beauty-focused glossy.
CR Fashion Book
Leave it to Carine Roitfeld to make Cardi B look high-fashion.
InStyle
We don't usually look to InStyle for out-of-the-box covers, but this side shot of Oprah Winfrey is a welcome twist.
LOVE
Kaia Gerber channeling Gia Carangi in the best possible way.
Porter
Leave it to Natalie Portman to pull off a questionable outfit with grace.
Harper's Bazaar UK
Is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley trying to hide a pregnancy? That's the only acceptable explanation for this unflattering dress.
ELLE UK
Margot Robbie has landed more covers than we can count as of late, but sadly this one isn't a winner. There's too much going on and it's a poor outfit choice given the beachy backdrop.
Vogue UK
Gigi and Bella Hadid each got their own Vogue UK cover this month to flaunt their signature poses.
Harper's Bazaar
Somehow Selena Gomez comes off looking like Kylie Jenner on this cover.
ELLE
A stunning shot of Angelina Jolie that lets her beauty and gorgeous dress shine.
Glamour
Glamour continues its metamorphosis into a teen magazine with this juvenile shot that doesn't do Katy Perry any justice.
Vogue
Someone as beautiful as Alicia Vikander surely didn't need this much Photoshop.
Vanity Fair
The magazine's much-anticipated annual Hollywood issue cover was tarnished by too much Photoshop and a last-minute digital deletion of James Franco .
V Magazine
How can you not love Grace Elizabeth's hat and winged eye? That said V Magazine has clearly lost its edge with this lackluster and borderline cheesy cover.
Vogue Arabia
What we wouldn't give to be as sultry as Irina Shayk...
Vogue Germany
Not sure about "très chic" (could anyone pull this look off in real life?) but Birgit Kos looks undeniably sexy.
Vogue Japan
This looks more like an ad for Louis Vuitton than a cover shot (starring Luna Bijl, Lexi Boling, Kiki Willems and Selena Forrest).
Vogue Netherlands
Love it or hate it, this bold shot of Luna Bijl is eye-catching enough to stand out at the newsstand.
Vogue Poland
Is this the cover of a magazine or a car ad starring Anja Rubik and Malgosia Bela?
Vogue Russia
Luna Bijl giving major 80s glam.
WSJ. Magazine
There's no arguing with the appeal of this Oprah Winfrey cover — even if she's already made it clear she won't be running for president.
Marie Claire
Reese Witherspoon looking deep in thought.
Harper's Bazaar Australia
Margot Robbie is beautiful, obviously, but her ice skating-inspired look has no business on a fashion magazine.
Vogue Korea
What's worse: the shoes or Kendall Jenner being so Photoshopped she looks more like a mannequin than a human?
Vogue Paris
A pretty bland and boring cover, especially for Vogue Paris. It's also worth noting that even Grace Elizabeth can't pull off oversized leather.
Vogue Australia
Emma Watson looking absolutely adorable, if not a tad bit cold.
