Vogue Japan April 2018 : Christy Turlington by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

Christy Turlington Is Back on the Cover of Vogue Japan After 10 Years

We’re all for seeing Christy Turlington on the cover of our favorite fashion glossies, whether she’s going au naturel on Vogue Germany, giving it her all on the cover of Vogue Paris or beaming with delight on i-D Magazine‘s latest. So you can imagine how thrilled our forums were to learn the 90s supermodel was on the cover of Vogue Japan. Returning ten years after her last Japanese Vogue appearance, Christy was once again shot by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin for the magazine’s April 2018 issue, flashing her signature smile and wearing a look from Chanel’s Spring 2018 collection.

Forum members were disappointed with the cover, however, blaming the magazine for a wasted opportunity. “You can’t have Christy Turlington and Inez & Vinoodh in the same sentence and get this HORRIBLE cover. How dare you!” exclaimed helmutnotdead.

“When Christy Turlington and Inez & Vinoodh couldn’t even save this magazine, that’s when you start realizing that this magazine is truly doomed. I 100% doubt that this was the best shot. The hands are so awkwardly placed. They look contrived. The pose is forced. The styling is atrocious,” scolded MON.

“The styling is awful. What is she even wearing? What a waste,” wrote badgalcrush.

“What has she done to deserve this crappy cover?” questioned Royal-Galliano.

Phuel was quick to jump in and state, “This is what happens when these huge names don’t give a crap. And as lazy as the efforts are, Christy still looks radiant!”

“If you just focus on the smile, it’s a lovely cover,” admitted forum member mikel.

Also liking what they were looking at was Miss Dalloway. “Yup, this works for me. The styling is something they go for, and when you have a model with her presence even that garish outfit and font can’t take away from it,” she pointed out.
