London’s been abuzz with the designers showcasing their latest wares over the past few days and no doubt the industry has been anticipating London Fashion Week more than ever this season for one reason and one reason only — Riccardo Tisci’s highly-anticipated Burberry debut .
The designer, who parted ways with Givenchy back in 2017, has been keeping us in suspense since he was appointed creative director of the mega British brand in March and finally debuted a respectful, chic and sleek collection for Spring 2019. Tisci’s debut wasn’t the only monumental thing to come out of LFW. Victoria Beckham came across the pond to commemorate 10 years in the business and Mary Katrantzou also celebrated a decade in fashion by producing a greatest hits collection. Meanwhile, Margaret Howell continued to do “simplicity at its finest” and we still can’t get enough of J.W.Anderson . And, it’s decided: Delpozo officially needs to join the haute couture calendar.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Matty Bovan channeled Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh is just doing more of the same and Alexa Chung somehow snagged a spot on the LFW schedule.
Whose collection triumphed overall? Take a look at all the hits and misses of London Fashion Week’s Spring 2019 season right here. Next stop Milan!

LFW Hits & Misses
HIT: Burberry
"Overall Riccardo [Tisci] presented a super chic collection, both the women's and men's collections. I like the fact he was not trying to reinvent Burberry...he remained true to the brand's identity while part of the collection had more of his flare... I am excited to see how he is going to make his mark at Burberry now." [Zposen ] "This is stunning, I absolutely loved everything he did at Givenchy and it really reminds me a lot of that. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Want so many things." [gossiping ] "It's sophisticated, feminine and mature. I was not expecting that at all. Thank god he didn't do a sneaker for the womenswear. The logos were kept to a bare minimum. It's commendable how he's going against the grain of current trends." [GivenchyHomme ]See all the looks from the Burberry collection .
MISS: Gareth Pugh
"I've seen this collection better executed one hundred times before." [helmutnotdead ] "What a throwback... I find this quite embarrassing to be honest. This looks like a graduate show. This is avant-garde for dummies, something you could expect to see on Project Runway and roasted by Nina Garcia. Come on Gareth, you're supposed to be better than that." [Lola701 ] "Hot Topic Couture." [GivenchyHomme ]See all the looks from the Gareth Pugh collection .
HIT: Simone Rocha
"I personally love the collection, of course she continues with her very romantic aesthetic, but how can you resist such glorious clothes. And the veils, I'm in awe!" [Ruito ] "Won me with that first look, precious, naive with slight sinister twist and wearable enough as to not look absurd. Another favorite was the white look with an orange embroidered overlay, so chic. I'm a sucker for a good veil, I love how it gives the looks a demure sophistication and helps build this idea of this cloying ornamentation swallowing the models." [YohjiAddict ] "The leading lady of LFW! May be completely out of place in London in terms of vocabulary and talent, but Simone Rocha proves how much diversity there is in this market." [Benn98 ]See all the looks from the Simone Rocha collection .
MISS: Christopher Kane
"Boring like all of his recent collections, faux-intellectual and whitewashed (are you still serious with these casts Chris???). This man used to produce stellar, eye-catching clothes that made LFW relevant. Not sure he's had that Midas touch in a long time now." [Fiercification ] "When I think about him, I have always in mind his Spring 2007 collection that was sexy, bold with vivid colours and details. I always ask myself why he took such a different path to create these awful collections. This one is no different, I felt lost looking at it..." [GivenchyAddict ] "To me it’s like his brand is going nowhere. Been stuck in a formulaic way of doing collections for years now, ever since that Kering acquisition, and there is hardly anything fresh." [dodencebt ]See all the looks from the Christopher Kane collection .
HIT: Delpozo
"Absolutely beautiful, the red looks felt like drops of blood in an ice cream shop." [Vitamine W ] "Sweet, sweet collection. The colors are fabulous as always." [Ruito ] "That deep red is just so stunning, and juxtaposed with candy pastels make it all the more luxurious! This brand really should be in haute couture! I don't see any other label who has such sublime cutting as this one!" [ToniOrtega ]See all the looks from the Delpozo collection .
MISS: ALEXACHUNG
"No business being famous let alone having a show. The clearance bin at Zara is more stimulating." [YohjiAddict ] "This collection is the definition of bland. There is nothing so bad to say as 'what on Earth is this?' But every single look is completely unremarkable. I have always found Alexa quite overrated and never considered her looks so interesting, so her show is a reflection of that for me." [apple ] "No business having a fashion show, terrible." [HeatherAnne ]See all the looks from the ALEXACHUNG collection .
HIT: Peter Pilotto
"Love that it's distinctly summery, not getting much originality. It's IMO one of their most commercial collections yet!" [Benn98 ] "Dreamy collection." [liberty33r1b ] "Very commercial, very likable but I like it. It could have been a disaster if it was done by someone else but it's done in a very tasteful and sophisticated way." [Lola701 ]See all the looks from the Peter Pilotto collection .
MISS: Matty Bovan
"This is the stuff from London Fashion Week I cannot stand. It’s just a rehash of London’s glory days of punk and glamour...Westwood, McLaren, Bowie, Bowery as well as Galliano and McQueen...some of these young Brits just cannot move on and come up with references that are more personal and idiosyncratic - or current, for that matter." [dior_couture1245 ] "Do people that want to dress like this even have the money to buy it? They'd probably sew it up themselves." [tatouejeremine ] "I'm trying to understand this... This feels like Westwood meets Dolce & Gabbana. I'm failing to see a point of view, a vision. It's bold but quite predictable as an approach of 'avant-garde' fashion. It's even more predictable because it's from London." [Lola701 ]See all the looks from the Matty Bovan collection .
HIT: Ashish
"Love this! It's oozing with glamour and sexiness, and I like most of the ensembles. It's the kind of clothes which just begs for a night out or exotic locale." [Benn98 ] "It’s kind of sexy. Probably some of his best work. Sexy, flattering and fun. Colors are good, the sequins and embellishment are glamorous...love the sequin trench! Also love the silver shimmer embellishment button up worn with the little camo sequin miniskirt." [dior_couture1245 ] "Sexy, sexy!!! I love this! There's something in the spirit that almost reminds me of early 00s Gucci or Versace. The simple lines, the slinky fabrics...I love the wet thing but even more I like that the color palette and the sequins almost suggest the fact that they are coming from water. It has a heavy but very light quality." [Lola701 ]See all the looks from the Ashish collection .
HIT: Victoria Beckham
"I was certain she was gonna do a cheesy retrospective for her 10th Anniversary! So glad she proved me wrong, what a gorgeous collection. Perfect continuation of where she has been heading the past 5 years...more modern, mature, clean, chic! There is something 90s about this, the lace is perfectly used here. And finally a bit of eveningwear is back, it looks stunning." [Miss Dalloway ] "I really liked it. For one is way less Celine heavy than her recent collections, there are some nods to her early years, a bit more womanly and mature. I also appreciate the simplicity and wearability, the ease is just lovely." [Marc10 ] "Victoria Beckham on her 10th year as a designer celebrates with a collection that looks effortlessly chic and cool at the same time." [YeohRocks ]See all the looks from the Victoria Beckham collection .
HIT: Margaret Howell
"Simplicity at its finest." [Machinegumm ] "This is beautiful, I love the additional colours - rust and mustard. Classic and easy." [Not Plain Jane ] "I love it too, I've always liked Howell. I particularly like the colours and the collars and sleeves on the women's shirts." [Morgane07 ]See all the looks from the Margaret Howell collection .
HIT: Roland Mouret
"It’s very refreshing to see this in London. Calm, sexy, grown-up and sophisticated. Showing outdoors was such a great idea." [Lola701 ] "Didn't expect to like this show so much!! The sheer halter actually adds another dimension to his aesthetic, and I like that he wrestled between satisfying his loyal followers while still expanding their idea of easy glamour." [Benn98 ] "Refined and easygoing at the same time." [Valentine27 ]See all the looks from the Roland Mouret collection .
HIT: Molly Goddard
"Stunning! Never been that much of a fan of Molly, but this collection blew me away! The navy looks are so chic, as were all the white ones!" [ToniOrtega ] "Her best runway collection yet! I love all the pieces in solid colors, from the popelin to the last row of chiffon!" [Lola701 ] "This looks really accomplished and sophisticated while still being playful. For the first time I see clothes here that actually have a sense of place and reality...her previous work has all still felt like a CSM experimentation project, but this looks like a real designer collection with broader appeal beyond London." [dior_couture1245 ]See all the looks from the Molly Goddard collection .
HIT: Mary Katrantzou
"Fantastic collection. Making anniversary/retrospective collections can be tricky, but she pulled it off flawlessly. Amazing nods to past collections and at the same time presenting new ideas. Love how dressy and sophisticated it looks too." [Marc10 ] "Nice greatest hits collection. Congratulations to her for being there after 10 years in the business. Ten years is difficult in modern fashion for every 'new designer'." [Lola701 ] "I've always found her having a lot more potential than what she had offered. So seeing this greatest hits show definitely confirmed that feeling because here, she has managed to flesh out some of her ideas better." [Ken Doll Jenner ]See all the looks from the Mary Katrantzou collection .
HIT: J.W.Anderson
"Another home run for Mr. Anderson. I just can't get enough of him." [ghostwriter10549 ] "There are always so many IDEAS at a JW show, and I appreciate that...lots of little details and construction techniques that are interesting and playful. I really like the satin puff sleeve top, and the leather skirt with the large strip curving off at the hip." [dior_couture1245 ] "Fashion should be grateful to have JW with them. Beautiful and lacks any pretentiousness. Pure fashion." [dontbeadrag ]See all the looks from the J.W.Anderson collection .
