The change in season is the perfect time to shake up your look and make a statement with a feline-inspired winged eye. The versatile look can go in a soft or a graphic direction and can be done in black for versatility or can take a nod from the Fall 2011 runways and incorporate metallics.
To get the look, prime your eyes with an eye primer like Sensai Eyelid Base (1) or dab some face powder on your lids to ensure that your look will last (this is especially important for those with oily lids). Then, trace upper lashes with black shadow starting in the inner corner and extending in a straight line about a quarter of an inch past the outer corner of the eye. Keep the line as thick as your natural eye shape when it hits the outer corner. Leave the ends thick and either squared off for a softer look or slightly pointed for a more graphic one. If there’s a gap between your shadow and lash line, take an eyeliner brush and fill in any space.
Apply liner to your lower lash line, making sure it’s very thin to avoid a tired look. Next, prime your lashes with Givenchy Mister Lash Booster (2) and then apply lots of Chantecaille Mascara (3), hands down the best mascara for a smooth, clump-free glide – which is essential when you’re not being shy with the amount of mascara you’re applying.
To give this look more of an edge, switch out the black shadow for a metallic hue, such as pewter, or a colored shadow if you feel like going in a lighter, more spring-like direction.
As a rule of thumb “it’s eyes or lips”, so go with a neutral, lightly glossy lip by applying a gloss like Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Pink Teaser (4). Prep your face with Hourglass Mineral Primer SPF 15 (5), which will not only hydrate skin, but will allow your foundation, Sensai Fluid Finish (6) is a favorite, to glide on smoothly. Set foundation with a little bit of powder (Chantecaille Protection Naturelle (7) is a good choice because it’s formulated with SPF 46), and finish your look with a sweeping of blush, like Sue Devitt Beausoleil Face Palette (8), on your cheeks and a little bit of an illuminator, like Estee Lauder Opulent Shimmer Powder (9), all over your face to brighten skin.
