Backstage Beauty with Justin St. Clair: Victoria Beckham Spring 2012

Victoria Beckham’s collection was laudable, revealing, and covetable, with accessories many women have said they’d take a sister out for. This, of course, is no surprise to me as I’ve come to expect the best from someone who’s never settled for less. But best is just the beginning.

There is a gravity to her work that doesn’t at first seem to go hand in hand with the beautiful, witty, and lithe lady. But on that somber morning of September 11, 2011, I look at the models dressed and headed for the runway and they are effortless chic, despite the sadness of the day. I realize that it is these qualities that have always been so evident in Mrs. Beckham. Qualities she has infused into her work and that the word “posh” can only hope to describe.

The look created for the show by Charlotte Tilbury, made possible by Lancome, was handsome, sporty, and effortlessly chic.

A prepossessing strong eyebrow, glossy warm lids, contoured and highlighted skin, and a muted lip all bring out the face’s natural beauty without disguising any of its features. The look is somewhat counterintuitive and thereby deceptively simple, yet perfectly balanced.

For me, at least, the result was a thoroughly modern, stylish woman who could just as easily best you in a joust, as beguile you before you know it! Now what kind of beautiful is that?
