Who: Emily Blunt
Where: The opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival
Why we like it: Retro beauty looks have fallen out of fashion lately but this modern take is perfect for the red carpet. A matte finish on the face and subtle metallic liner keep it looking fresh and modern.
How to get it at home: Start with a matte finish foundation, such as Make Up For Ever’s Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation, $36, and blend it with a stippling or buffing brush for an even, airbrushed finish. The matte finish means your can skip powder without having too much shine and if you blend it over your eyelids, you can skip a shadow base. With a very small amount of product on the brush, apply a light dusting of NARS’ Blush in Orgasm, $28 to add a touch of peachy-pink color to the cheeks. Lightly fill in your brows with a powder, such as Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo, $22, and brush through to evenly distribute the product.
With a thin eyeliner brush, apply Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, $22, with a small outwards flick. If you’re not sure how thick you want your line, start small and build it — that’s the beauty of a gel liner. Take a colored pencil, such as Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes, $18, in Champagne 23L, and run it underneath the lower lash line. Don’t curl your lashes, because you’ll take away from the liner, but apply a volumizing mascara, such as Dior’s DiorShow Mascara, $25, to add bulk and depth of color. Finish off your look with a rich, glossy lip color, such as Urban Decay’s Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Crush $19.
