Who: Cobie Smulders
Where: The Avengers Premiere
Why we like it: The star of How I Met Your Mother isn’t usually on our red carpet radar but with The Avengers press tour well under way she’s caught our eye. It’s a risk to match your dress to your makeup but in Cobie’s case it definitely paid off. The metallic tone is just enough to set it apart from her matte dress and the look is striking from up close and afar.
How to get it at home: Start by applying a fuller coverage foundation, such as Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Supreme Foundation $42. You want a flawless finish that shows off your skin’s texture without allowing any imperfections to show through. The matte finish of this formula works well to offset the shimmery eye. Fill in your brows with a powder or pencil, such as Anastasia’s Brow Wiz $20, and then brush through to evenly distribute the color.
Start your eye makeup with NARS’ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base $24 because you’ll need it to hold on to the pigment and shimmer. Next, take Illamasqua’s Powder Eye Shadow in Bronx $20, or any other coppery color, and apply it all over the lid and lightly under the lower lash line. This will provide depth of color and give you a much richer finish. Then apply Make Up For Ever’s Diamond Powder in Bronze 4 $25 across the lid and under the lash line. This is a true copper which will give a much more orange toned eye than a standard bronze. Using a black powder or pencil, such as Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes $18, gently line the upper lash line for definition. Finish off your eyes with a few coats of Dior’s Diorshow New Look Mascara $28.50 for added definition and volume in your lashes.
With all that’s going on up top, very little is needed for the rest of the face. A light dusting of Buxom’s True Hue Blush in Breathless $24 will define the cheeks and you can give your lips a break and apply a balm for added moisture.
