From Marc by Marc Jacobs to Narciso Rodríguez, Shiseido is responsible for some of the most influential runway beauty looks. We spoke with one of the brand's makeup artists, Colleen Runne , to get her take on some of the season's standout Spring 2013 beauty looks and how you can get them now.
Shiseido Expert Dishes on Runway Beauty
Alexander Wang
This look is too pale/washed out for real life. If someone wanted to achieve a more wearable version of this look, I’d suggest warming the skin up with a pop of blush and a lip color with more tone. Try Shiseido’s Lacquer Rouge in Camel (BE306) for a neutral/beige lip without looking like you came from the morgue.
Burberry
I love this strong brow and lip. It’s very sophisticated and can be worn by all age groups. For the woman that already has a strong brow, no need to add weight, just brush the brow in shape and add a bit of brow gel to groom hairs in place. For the lip, try Shiseido's Perfect Rouge in Dragon (RD514).
Marchesa
This is another example of runway only makeup. The black liner along the lower lash line and the gold leaf at the inner corner of the eye is too harsh for the average woman. Translate into a wearable version by applying Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar (BK912) along the upper and lower lash lines and a bit of Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Techno Gold (GD803) to the inner "v" of the eye. Lip color should have a bit more weight, too to prevent it being washed out. I suggest Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge in Blush (RD732) or Caramel (BE333).
Fendi
I like this look for editorial and runway, but not for everyday makeup. This would have to be modified for the ‘real gal.’ The emphasis is on the lower lash line, created with little bits of pre-cut fabric, which we all know is only for the runway! Also, the lip shade is very neutral which does not work on everyone. I suggest Shiseido’s Shimmering Rouge in Ingenue (BE303) to give the lip a bit of sheen and color in a more wearable neutral. For darker skin tones, apply Shiseido’s Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment (acts as treatment, but also has a bit of pearl in it to give a beautiful lip) over natural lip tone.
Mugler
This is very beautiful and sexy. If you wish to recreate this look, take care not to get "the hook" at the end of the eye by applying liner upward a little before the end of the natural lash line. You can also swirl Shiseido’s Luminizing Satin Face Colors in Soft Beam Gold (BE206) and High Beam White (WT905) together along the upper cheekbone and undereye area to create a halo of lightness and luminosity. Last, apply Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte in Sugar Babe (PK224) for a perfect finish.
Missoni
This is a great look, though the neon lips would have to be translated into another shade as not every woman can wear such an intense color. Try using a bright shade that can be blotted down like Shiseido’s Lacquer Rouge in Disco (RS404) — a personal favorite for its very bright but very wearable hot pink color.
Prada
This is a very wearable look with very beautiful makeup. To achieve, apply a light wash of eye shadow on the lids like Shiseido’s Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Alchemy (RD709), followed by a very light coat of black mascara. To achieve the lip, use a beautiful, strong red like Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge in Valentine (RD415) and make sure the application is precise. A lip pencil will help with that.
Emilio Pucci
This makeup only looks good on younger girls and the paled-down skin cannot be worn by many. Try the mid-tone gray from Shiseido’s Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Snow Shadow (GY901) on the lid and along the lower lash line — it’s the perfect shade to recreate this look. A pop of blush on the cheek and Shiseido’s Lacquer Rouge in Portrait (RD203) applied to the lips gives a soft pink touch that is not white like this one.
Jeremy Scott
Personally, this is not my favorite makeup look as there are too many colors on the eye. For those who do like this, and would like to create a similar version, apply Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Leather (BR306) along the upper and lower lash lines, Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Sky (BL233) on the lids, and a neutral beige lip color like Perfect Rouge in Dune (BE310) on the lips.
Vivienne Westwood
As much as I love Vivienne Westwood as a designer, I don't love this look for real women. This makeup is only for the runway, editorial, Halloween, or Lady Gaga. Hard lines along the eyes are not flattering. For those who would like to create a wearable version of this, apply Shiseido’s Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Ice (BL215) along upper lid to crease and a trace on the lower lash line. Follow with a black liquid eyeliner along lash lines and black mascara on the upper and lower lashes. For lips, Shiseido’s Shimmering Rouge in Stiletto (PK407) will create a sheer, bright pink lip.
