Who: Taylor Swift
Where: The Fragrance Foundation Awards
Why we like it: In the summer, it’s easy to slip into the tinted moisturizer/mascara/cream blush trap that lends itself so well to hot days where melting makeup is a real risk, but sometimes it’s nice to pump it up a notch and this look is the perfect solution. With its bright pops of color and clean skin, it makes a statement without being finicky.
How to get it at home: Start with a matte finish base, such as BECCA’s Matte Skin Shine Proof Foundation ($42), which will not only help balance the heavy glitter of the eye but will also minimize any need for powder. If you don’t have bangs, be sure to fill in your brows as you’ll need them to shape the face, but if not, move on to your eyes.
With glitter shadows, it’s always important to prep your lids but you don’t always have to have a fancy primer, a bit of foundation or concealer will often do the trick in a pinch. Start your eyes by applying Make Up For Ever’s Eyeshadow in Orange Coral Matte 5 ($20) all across the upper lid, then top with Make Up For Ever’s Diamond Powder in Bronze 4 ($25). Next, line the bottom lash line with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Electric ($19) and smudge it slightly. One of the most important elements of this look is the black liner. It’s easy to go over-the-top with color (and glitter!) but the black liner really helps to ground it, so take a gel liner, such as Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink ($23), and run it along the upper lash line, blending well into the lashes. Top off your eyes with Lancome’s Definicils High Definition Mascara – Show ($29) and finish your look with a soft peach gloss, such as Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polish in Amber ($19).
