There may not have been any candy at the Kate Spade catering station backstage (given the brand’s image, my money was on a Dylan’s Candy Bar set up), but there were plenty of smiles. Unlike the usual high-stress anxiety you sense backstage, everything was cool and collected as Jouer penciled on makeup, Garnier spritzed the hair and Deborah Lippmann painted the nails.
I always enjoy presentations more than runway shows because you get to appreciate the details of the designer’s pieces so much more and backstage when things are calm, even more so.
I spent a good chunk of time ogling the shoes, hats, bags and other accessories, and despite a number of models opting to take their shoes off, I was told by a few that they were comfortable.
To complement the eye catching fashion, hair was pulled out of the face and twisted into a slightly messy bun, while makeup was finished with a dramatic eye. After applying Praline eye shadow, Jouer used liquid shimmer Panther liner before finished the eyes with false lashes and mascara. Kate lipstick and Blush lip gloss were applied on lips, mineral powder blush on the cheeks and the brand’s Matte Moisture Tint set with mattifying translucent powder was used on the face.
For nails, Deborah Lippmann, who was on hand herself, started with Gel Lab Base Coat and then followed it with Pseudi Silk Kimono, a milky alabaster white with a matte finish launching in November. Inspired by a cap-toe shoe, the tips were painted with Bad Moon Rising (a pewter shimmer launching in October) and then a thin strip of color was painted below the pewter shimmer tip. The accent strips were the same for all ten nails in one of three shades depending on the model.
