“Today, I discovered that though I might have trouble seeing out of them, my eyes are actually very symmetrical — or so said my lovely stylist. Who knew a little bit of blue eyeliner could lead to such a revelation?” exclaimed tFS staff writer Jihan Forbes as we snapped her picture for this story. Inspired by the fall beauty look at Kenzo, which consisted of the most graphic pop of blue, we couldn’t help but ask our GLAMSQUAD friends who gave us some killer hairstyles to help us with some experimenting in the makeup department. All it takes is some eyeliner and a steady hand to create this look at home. Seriously, you don’t even need mascara since the color is bright and will stand out on its own (thicker lashes will disrupt the look). Read on to see how GLAMSQUAD makeup artist Holly Whited gave Jihan this runway-worthy beauty look.
- Begin by tight-lining the top inner rim of the eyes using a thin pencil, like CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner ($4.55).
- Then create the shape of the liner with a black cream or gel eyeliner using a small angled brush. For Jihan’s look, Whited used Make Up For Ever Aqua Creamliner in Black ($22). “I used this type of liner because I’m going to be pressing the blue on top, and if I had used a liquid, the wet pigment wouldn’t stick and could cause the liner to run,” she explained.
- Next, use a loose blue pigment of your choice — or in this case, a mix of two from MAC ($21 each) — and a wet, flat liner brush (slightly bigger than the one used to create the black line) to press on the color on top of the black line starting with the part of the line closest to the nose. Slowly work your way out and build up the color to your liking. You can apply the blue all over the black line, or opt for a more subtle look by keeping the winged tip black. Either way, the graphic line will be dramatic and turn heads.
