Shu Uemura x Yaz Bukey Lands in Toronto

International illustrator and designer Yaz Bukey touched down in Toronto last Thursday to unveil a new collaboration with Shu Uemura that puts the fun back into skincare and makeup. The Paris-based artist, who has worked on brand collaborations with French macaron boutique Ladurée and beauty-meets-decor brand Cire Trudon, is branching out into beauty and fashion projects, the Shu Uemura collaboration being just one of the many to look out for.

Bukey’s nostalgic yet modern pop art illustrations are full of colour and the collection tells a fun and slightly dramatic meet-cute between four girls and one mysterious gentleman, Mr. Shu Shu. Each girl (Sexy Yaz, Smart Lola, Romantic Betty and Daring Tina) falls in love with the same man and has her own personality and, conveniently, her own colour-coordinated line of Shu Uemura x Yazbukey makeup. The star of each colour-coded collection is the best-selling Shu Uemura face oil targeted to treat a specific skin issue.

“I have always wanted to work with Shu Uemura and was really happy when we started working together — it was a long design process, but I think this collection tells a story about the Shu Uemura woman and also about me,” Bukey shared with us. A perfectionist, Bukey worked very closely with Shu Uemura’s office in Tokyo to get each lipstick, nail polish and eyeshadow just right.

The collection boasts pop art-inspired palette cases, lipsticks, nail polishes and face oils that range between $15 and $99. Take a peek at the collection by clicking here or head to Hudson’s Bay, Sephora or Holt Renfrew stores to pick up the line.
