This one’s for all the kids who refused to color inside the lines (and evolved into makeup-obsessed adults). On Monday, Clinique released a limited-edition collection of its ridiculously-easy-to-apply, mango-and-shea-butter-enhanced Chubby Sticks — but with a heartstring-tugging twist. Knowing we’re suckers for good packaging and nostalgia, the beauty giant teamed up with the color experts at Crayola to create an imaginative set of lip shades that look just like your grade school implement of choice. The squiggle-accented barrels come arranged in their own Chubby Lip Crayon Box because, as we all know, there’s no better feeling than unboxing a fresh set of crayons and pressing your fingertips against their temporarily perfect points.
“The whole idea behind Chubby Sticks is about play; it’s about exploring options and possibilities and not being anchored to a mirror, a lipliner, or a makeup artist,” Janet Pardo, the senior vice president for product development for Clinique, told Refinery29. “To us, the point is that when you look at one, it makes you smile. So, the obvious connection to that happy feeling is with a box of crayons. It brings you back to a carefree time in life — when you didn’t have stress, because you were a child. You could create whatever you wanted, you had endless amounts of time, and you could just play.”
Though there’s no icy blue Chubby Stick among the set, several of the hues cater to our new statement lip obsession. Shades like Razzmatazz (a bold magenta) and Mango Tango (self-explanatory) indulge our love of electric oranges and unapologetic pinks. (And if those names sound distantly familiar, it’s because they’re taken from Crayola fan favorites.) There are also more wearable tones among the bunch, like Fuzzy Wuzzy (a warm taupe) and Brick Red (again, self-explanatory). While some of the Crayola Chubby Sticks can be bought individually (for $17 apiece), others, like the aforementioned light brown and true red, are only available in the package deal ($49.50).
