At Tuesday’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, beauty bigwig Kérastase unveiled its latest product, the world’s very first (drumroll, please) smart hairbrush. The Kérastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings rolls right through your hair (if not off the tongue) collecting data as it goes. Its built-in sensors (including a microphone, accelerometer and gyroscope) analyze your brushing performance and, through a linked app, provide feedback on your technique. If the L’Oréal-owned brand’s robotic tool lives up to its hype, it’s a total game-changer.
The Hair Coach can supposedly tell if you’re brushing wet or dry, if you’re using too much force, if you’re following the right stroke patterns. It provides its human with a daily hair breakage score, or measure of overall hair quality. It then offers tips for bettering your brushing behavior and plugs other Kérastase beauty products that will help you do so (natch). All this allows you to minimize — or even banish — split ends.
As with all pricey beauty purchases, we’ll wait to see what the blogger set has to say about the Hair Coach before we splurge on the (slightly under) $200 machine. The smartest of brushes will reportedly hit select Kérastase hair salons and the brand’s website sometime in mid-2017. In the meantime, watch it in action in the clip below.
