Rihanna Stars on Three Covers and Guest Edits the Double Holiday Edition of Vogue Paris

Every year, our forums try to guess who will score the guest editor role for Vogue Paris’ December/January edition. The honor last year went to Karl Lagerfeld, to Vanessa Paradis in 2015 and to Ines de la Fressange in 2014. Names like Maria Grazia Chiuri and Bella Hadid were tossed around in our Cover Rumor thread over the weekend, but as it turns out, it’s global sensation Rihanna taking over for Emmanuelle Alt this year. Photographed by Jean-Paul Goude, Inez & Vinoodh and Juergen Teller for the occasion, Rihanna gifts us three unique covers for French Vogue‘s final issue of 2017.

Per usual with a series of covers, our forum members weighed in on their favorite. “Love the JPG cover (above). It feels appropriate, festive and slightly cheesy. Not such a fan of the two others,” voiced forum member Lola701.

“I’m all for the Jean-Paul Goude cover, since it just screams quintessential France and works wonderfully for the issue. Inez & Vinoodh’s (below) comes a close second while the Juergen Teller cover (after the jump) falls completely flat,” said vogue28.

“The cover by Goude should have been the only one IMO. The one by Teller is the worst, her expression is tragic,” added kokobombon.

“Good God, the long wait for this mess? They’re all despicable. Overrated Teller and I&V shooting the overrated Rihanna! Emmanuelle Alt has lost the plot. This reeks of desperation,” slammed Benn98.

Sharing the same sentiments was Miss Dalloway. “Whoa, three covers and not a single great one! The only one that almost does the job is by I&V!! I’ve honestly never seen her look as bad in print as in the Teller one, but I guess he has been ruining beautiful women for decades now. What a let down this turned out to be!”

Les_Sucettes wasn’t exactly jumping for joy either, writing, “Absolutely horrible. It’s almost comical how amateur everything looks, they really could not be bothered.”

“It all looks so half-arsed. These guest-edited issues use to be more celebratory. Instead of doing three mediocre covers, why not do one sensational cover? These are terrible,” disapproved forum member dfl-001.
