Grace Elizabeth and Luna Bijl Elevate Chanel’s Otherwise Boring Spring 2018 Campaign

There’s no denying that designer Karl Lagerfeld is a genius, yet his photography skills often leave a lot to be desired. As the Spring 2018 advertising campaigns continue to trickle out, Chanel’s is the latest to drop and we cannot help but feel…disenchanted. After commissioning an elaborate set for the show, Lagerfeld opted for a simple concept for the new mainline campaign, photographing beauties Grace Elizabeth and Luna Bijl in his legendary Paris photo studio. Keeping things bright with pastel backgrounds, Carine Roitfeld was left to her own styling devices while the girls tried their best to take the campaign images to another level.

Did they succeed? The majority of our forum members weren’t so sure. “He is not even trying anymore as far as his photography is concerned,” stated KissMiss at once.

“Agreed,” replied simon. “He could’ve done so much more with these two fronting the ad. Regardless, I’m so happy with his model choice this time!”

“This feels like a catalog or a lookbook shoot to me,” pointed out Moofins.

Anlabe32 wasn’t here for it either, commenting, “This campaign is just sad. Again a studio setting and an empty page for the Chanel logo? Karl couldn’t be less creative than this. Why not go out of the studio?”

Despite the lack of creativity, everyone seemed to admire the casting. “I always get a dreadful feeling when I click on a Chanel thread but I actually love this. It´s really simple but the models are delivering and the styling is not overwhelming,” appreciated kokobombon.

“Fantastic duo! Karl’s taste is usually questionable, IMO, but this is great! I’m so happy to see both of them. They are really great models and they look fantastic! They made a boring concept, with ugly clothes, look so good!” commented guimon.

“Yes!! Real models and not people with rich parents!! Luna, especially, absolute stunner,” forum member gossiping raved.
