Justine Picardie recently departed British Harper’s Bazaar after several years of service. Since taking over the helm of the fashion bible back in 2013, Picardie put her stamp on the magazine and this year alone delivered brilliant Olivia Colman, Kristen Stewart, Natalie Portman, Ashley Graham, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Saoirse Ronan covers. Bazaar‘s annual “Women of the Year” issue for December 2019 marks Picardie’s last and features a host of famous faces on a selection of covers. Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Letitia Wright, Ruth Wilson and Jorja Smith all land covers shot by different photographers to mark the occasion.
One cover came out on top. “Helena’s cover should have been the only one! It’s quite in the vein of this magazine’s aesthetic, but still a bit artistic. Love the drama as well,” declared Benn98.
“HBC is a national treasure! I’m sad that her gorgeous cover is being diluted by a multi-cover issue,” commented dodencebt.
“I love Helena’s cover!” proclaimed honeycombchild.

But Blanchett’s cover didn’t fare as well. “It’s Bazaar on autopilot. The spirit of elegance has departed the building and in lieu of making an effort, we’re gifted instead with a gray, crumpled and unglamorous cover shot,” complained an underwhelmed tigerrouge.
“Good cover, but nothing special,” said jorgepalomo.
[Piece Of Me] wasn’t exactly jumping for joy, either. “I love Cate, she can rarely do wrong on covers and this is once again a beautiful shot, but at the same time so predictable!”
