The Spice Girls Exhibit Their Most Iconic Fashion Pieces

Anyone who lived through the 90s knows the Spice Girls. Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger comprised the quintessential English pop girl group whose major influence transcended the decade’s music as much as they set beauty and style trends for girls all over the world. To commemorate their success, SpiceUp was launched on July 28 at the Business Design Centre in London. The touring exhibition features the biggest collection of iconic Spice Girls fashion pieces and other memorabilia.

From signature pieces like Ginger’s (Geri Halliwell’s) Union Jack dress, Scary’s (Melanie Brown’s) animal print dresses and the leather-cut outfits of Posh (Victoria Beckham) to group ensembles, the exhibit will take you on a trip down 90s fashionable memory lane. The exhibit is divided into several sections: Timeline of History Stage, Live Stage, Merchandise Stage and individual stages for the Spice Girls members.

It’s all thanks to Spice Girls’ superfan Alan Smith-Allison, who curated the exhibit. Smith-Allison gathered international fans and collaborated with them to set up around 7,000 articles of memorabilia and 300 dresses and shoes.

In an interview with Reuters, Smith-Allison said, “It needs to be out on show for fans to come and appreciate it and there are millions and millions of Spice Girls fans around the world that would love to see them.”

“(The collection) comes straight from the start, from the beginning, when these five girls came onto the pop music scene with just five incredible personalities, in your face, a lot of fun, a lot of kind of messages that can resonate,” he added.

The exhibition will run through August 20 in London before moving to Manchester.
