Scarlett Johansson Turns Down Marine Ball Invite, Sends a Case of Moet & Chandon

After Mila Kunis graciously accepted Afghanistan-stationed Sergeant Scott Moore’s Youtube invite to the Marine Ball, the world waited with bated breath to find out how another starlet, Scarlett Johansson, would respond to a similar proposal from Sergeant Dustin Williams. To my shock and horror, the blonde bombshell responded with the ultimate snub, by sending the Marine a case of Moet & Chandon, one of her contracted brands.

“I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making. Sgt. Williams, unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation.”

Crazytown. ScarJo might be more A-list than A-list, and I guess I can understand that she’d be a little skittish about spending an evening with someone that’s never graced the pages of People magazine, but she injected her refusal with a shot of product placement. She didn’t turn down a date, she wrote an ad!

To add insult to injury, Sergeant Williams is really cute. AND his YouTube invite was really clever and obviously time-consuming to produce: he runs a montage of himself getting dressed for the day and strutting to “Staying Alive” as he prepares to ask her out. He even added a long slide with a photo of ScarJo, set to Lionel Richie’s “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Turning him down was totally unreasonable. In between FIGHTING A WAR, Sergeant Williams found an elaborate, sweet way to ask out his dream girl. And ScarJo isn’t going because she’s too busy doing what? Taking photos for booze labels, getting over her breakup with commitment-phobe Sean Penn, and filming The Avengers?

I mean, I’m busy too: I have coffeeshops to frequent and celebrities to criticize. But if Sergeant Moore asked me to join him at the Ball, I would totally clear my schedule.

I bet you would too. Watch the clip below:
