Lifetime has just announced the cast for Project Runway’s All-Stars season, and it’s pretty clear that the season will insta-fail if the competition doesn’t come down to Mondo Guerra and Austin Scarlett, mostly because I can’t recognize any of the other contestants.
But either way, the spin-off promises to be a snooze-fest because the fashion industry pros that run the main series (Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors) will be replaced by a whole new crop of somebodies. Marie Claire editor Joanna Coles will be playing the mentor role, model Angela Lindvall is set to host, and designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will fill out the guest panel. It’s a good crowd, but Project Runway was branded by the charisma of Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum and a PR season without a slew of “make it works” and “auf wiedersehens” sounds intolerable.
But maybe I’m just crabby, because the forums couldn’t be happier that Angela Lindvall is stepping out in front of the TV cameras.
