Kristen Stewart Covers Elle, Seems Pretty Cool in the Accompanying Interview

And so, of course, Elle mag decided to feature her on the cover of its June issue. A preview of the cover and spread are already available online, and even though the glossy did the best they could to bring a little life into Stewart’s pictures (shout-out to that beaded Ralph Lauren dress on the cover!), she looks as dull and dour as ever.

But in a surprising twist, she actually seems — it’s hard to say this — very awesome in the interview which accompanies the spread. The profile opens at a bookstore, with Stewart gushing about the novel Contempt by Alberto Moravia, a book I happen to be quite fond of. She goes on and on about her reading habits: she loves John Steinbeck (seemingly in a genuine way!), Martin Amis, Bukowski, Aleksander Hemon — she’s so convincing as a true reader that I can’t help but suspect that some genius publicist gave her cue cards.

I’m so worried this is all for show. Stewart seems too unconcerned about the reporter at her side: she drops the word “fuck” in every other sentence (at one point referring to Robert Pattinson as her “fucking boyfriend”) and smokes Camels in her car, ashing in an empty Snapple bottle.

At one point, Stewart tells the reporter:

Because I didn’t go to fucking school, I feel I would have had a bit something extra if I had. Maybe because my life is so perfect, when I see the other side of life, it just seems like, almost like I want…You can learn so much from bad things. I feel boring. I feel like, Why is everything so easy for me?

I buy it. I buy her. I’m a Kristen Stewart convert. In real life, I would totally be friends with this girl.
