Katrantzou’s Spring 2014 collection may have been a catalyst for this, with her abstract photographic prints of sneakers and laces over her designs. The American sports brand is definitely pleased to add the designer to its list of collaborators that has included Topshop, Stella McCartney and Pharell Williams.
Speaking to Vogue UK this morning, Adidas global creative director Dirk Schoenberger was thrilled about the forthcoming partnership. “The collaboration between Adidas and Mary Katrantzou merges the exceptional talent of one of the most interesting designers of today and a company that embraces many different cultures from sports, pop, music and fashion, I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the Adidas originals women’s collection.”
Currently reported to be released in November this year, the collection will include both footwear and clothing, and given that one of those expertly printed dresses from Mary’s own range usually retails at around $2,500, you can bet that this collection will be far more affordable and will not be left on the shelves for long, and Katrantzou cannot wait either.
“I’m really excited to be working with Adidas on a line of apparel and footwear, I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing Adidas sneakers and I’m really excited about bringing my vision to such a global brand,” she told Vogue UK earlier. “They have a fantastic heritage and their ability to innovate in sportswear makes them the perfect partner for us to work with in this market.”
We cannot wait to see what the results will be.
