Diane von Furstenberg is hunting for a new Global Brand Ambassador, but you won’t be hearing rumors about who it might be in the pages of Women’s Wear Daily. That’s because the designer’s been tapped by E! to turn the hiring process into mindless entertainment for millions of Americans. Diane will star in The DVF Project, which is not a hilarious sitcom written by Mindy Kaling about being Diane von Furstenberg. Instead, the reality docu-series will follow the designer as she chooses amongst a handful of hopefuls wishing to work for her high-profile label.
The contestants will be pitted against each other working a series of DVF events, managing campaigns and as the grand finale, helping put together the New York Fashion Week runway show.
E! promises drama galore, to which we’re giving MAJOR side-eye. If you’re applying for a job, especially as a Global Brand Ambassador for an iconic fashion house, the last thing you want to do is be seen acting out on television. Reality shows are an incubator for ratchet and unbecoming behavior of all kinds–it’s pretty much guaranteed that something head-shakingly ridiculous is going to happen, otherwise…no one would watch. Funny how that works out.
Diane, on the other hand, seems stoked about the show: “I am so thrilled to partner with E!, and to grant young women the opportunity to become the women they want to be,” she said.
Let’s just hope the ladies behave themselves.
