It’s every model’s dream to walk for fashion houses like Chanel and Fendi, and Ford Models is giving one young hopeful a chance to take a turn down both catwalks. The modeling agency is holding a contest, #walkwithkarl, in which one girl will be chosen to mosey down the runway for both of the Karl Lagerfeld-helmed brands. The winner will also shoot a spread for V magazine (lensed by the Kaiser himself) and snag a contract with Ford.
As with most modeling competitions, it’s hard to tell whether or not the winner will actually have a future in fashion. America’s Next Top Model contestants in general haven’t had much luck breaking into the world of high fashion (except maybe Fatima Siad, who’s walked for Hermès and was featured in Hervé Léger‘s Spring 2012 campaign). Still, there are still plenty of other models who have gone on to successful careers thanks to these contests. Sports Illustrated model and The Face co-host Anne V. got her start by winning a modeling competition with IMG.
The fashion world is fickle. One minute, designers fawn over you, and the next, they throw you away like last season’s Birkenstocks. Hopefully, the girl who wins will enjoy a degree of longevity in this tough-as-nails industry.
