Anna Wintour Accepted Her British Fashion Award in John Galliano for Margiela

The big news to come out of last night’s British Fashion Awards wasn’t that Cara Delevingne won Model of the Year or that Erdem took home the prize for womenswear designer. No — it was actually the attendance of a non-nominee that got folks buzzing. We are talking, of course, about John Galliano, who after staying relatively under the radar on the fashion event beat, reemerged to present Anna Wintour with the Outstanding Achievement Award.

To accept her honor, Wintour wore the very first Galliano for Margiela piece we’ve seen since the announcement that he would be taking over as creative director of the house. It seemed very much like a homecoming for the designer, an affirmation that in spite of his troubled past, the industry is ready to embrace him for his work again.

The dress was created especially for Wintour, which leaves us wondering if the silver and black tulip-decorated gown may be a sign of what Galliano is cooking up for Fall 2015. We’ll just have to wait until February to see…
