Kanye West’s Adidas collaboration just got an order from a major buyer. Barneys just announced it will be carrying the Kanye West x Adidas Originals Season 1 collection, which will be available in stores and online. Word is, Barneys is also trying to get West somehow involved with the marketing aspect of the collection, which, if plans go forward, should be an easy task for the man who considers himself the Steve Jobs of culture.
According to Tom Kalenderian, EVP and general men’s merchandise manager, Yeezy’s collection “is right for the moment.” In addition to apparel, Barneys will carry the footwear and bags associated with the range. All the excitement around West’s big Barneys buy must have made the rapper extremely busy. West was scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Friday to participate in a sketch and read mean tweets, but he was apparently a no-show. According to a rep for West, scheduling conflicts are to blame. “We were never confirmed . . . We took extraordinary steps and worked directly with the show to make it happen. Logistics were insurmountable.”
We lament this missed opportunity to see Mr. West make fun of himself.
