January Jones is showing off her acting range in the latest edition of Violet Grey‘s The Violet Files magazine. The publication tapped the star of Mad Men (now in its final season) to pose for a series of “beauty tests,” in which she brings to life six characters through the magic of hair, makeup and, of course, a good amount of smizing.
Jones transforms into a “barely-there beauty” with no clothes and little makeup, a hip berry-lipped gallery girl, a sleek and chic boss-type character and a few other arresting personas. Jones also opens up about some of her struggles growing up, noting that it wasn’t until she began to blossom into the conventionally attractive beauty she is today that she began to become more self-conscious. Jones wants to use her platform to encourage young girls to feel confident in themselves, no matter their age or what they look like.
“It actually wasn’t until I got into high school and started to get quote-unquote pretty that my confidence started to disappear,” she explains. “I want to give the message that girls can be proud and self-assured no matter what funky haircut they have.”
