Donatella Versace Claps Back at Giorgio Armani’s Comments about Her Late Brother

Plenty of people were offended by Giorgio Armani’s Sunday Timeinterview this weekend, in which he outlined his personal guidelines for how gay men should dress, but it wasn’t those homophobic and insensitive remarks that have Donatella Versace seeing red.

During the interview, Armani talked about his more conservative approach to fashion, attempting to illustrate this with an alleged quote from the late Gianni Versace. According to Armani, Versace “was looking at the models, and he said to me, ‘I dress sluts. You dress church ladies.’”

Seems like a pretty innocuous comment between fellow designers. Except Donatella Versace was not at all amused and she says that Armani made up the exchange entirely. “I find it extremely rude and tasteless that Mr. Armani has once again put words into my brother’s mouth, especially because he is sadly no longer with us to reply,” she said. “This is the second time he claims this was said. The first was immediately after his death, and he apologized to me. When my brother spoke about fashion, the only word that ever came from his mouth was glamour. What should be said about my brother is: May Gianni Versace rest in peace.”

Yeesh. Seems like Armani is offending everyone this week.
